Everyone deserves the opportunity for success…

Being a Golden Retriever can be hard work. Just think of the words used in praise of them—adaptable, intelligent, friendly, kindly, eager, alert, self-confident, sturdy, reliable and trustworthy. For a puppy, that's a lot to live up to. Just ask Finn.

Finn was raised by the McBride family, but he was not the first Leader Dog puppy in their house. “We're raising our fifth dog for Leader Dog,” Beth McBride, 19, says. “We started because I wanted a puppy and Mom thought we should do a one-year trial.”

Living near Leader Dog in Rochester Hills, the McBride's were accustomed to seeing the dogs practicing on the city streets, so it seemed natural to invite a Future Leader Dog into their home.

This video features the McBrides, along with Puppy Raisers Marilee and Phil Townsend with Future Leader Dog “Savannah” and Leader Dog Instructor Jamie Togal with Leader Dog in Training “Piper.”

The video gives a look into the worlds of puppy raising and training. These are both worlds that Finn had experienced by age 18 months.
