Message from the President
Future Leader Dog Evan
Now that spring is in full swing, like all of us, I've been enjoying the energy of the season. At this time of year I like to think of our Leader Dog clients enjoying spring walks in communities around the country with their loyal Leader Dogs beside them. Here at Leader Dog, I continue to be amazed by the determination of our donors, volunteers and team members who work tirelessly to support our work and the tremendous energy that is infused throughout our organization. Leader Dog generates funding for the breeding, training and placement of extremely valuable guide dogs for people who are blind or visually impaired. We are immensely thankful to those who give so generously of their time, talents and through financial contributions. This message is purposely written to recognize each and every one of you; words do not exist to express our gratitude. Each year over 200 people experience a powerful new way of life with a uniquely trained Leader Dog. Your efforts support our mission, allowing our clients to reside with us at no charge for their month-long training sessions. Our very exacting guide dog program has evolved over the years and the success rate for the client/dog teams is extremely high. Clearly, this is serious, life-altering training, but it is also a very touching experience with many heartfelt and humorous moments. The end result of all the work, practice, failure and success is a human-animal bond that truly elevates the client's quality of life as new opportunities are created, and challenges once avoided become routine. So as spring turns to summer, let's carry this renewed energy forward and continue to change lives. Thank you for your meaningful support of Leader Dogs for the Blind and our mission; we could not do it without you. Have a wonderful summer!
