Donors often contact us asking for alternative ways, other than a straight cash donation, that they can give to Leader Dog. Three of the most popular ways to make a gift to Leader Dog are through life insurance, charitable gift annuities and appreciated securities. These options often allow donors to provide for their heirs while making a much larger gift to Leader Dogs for the Blind than they thought possible.

Charitable Gift Annuities – Gifts that keep on giving.

If you want to increase your cash flow and make a gift to Leader Dog, a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) may be right for you. By making a gift of $10,000 or more to a CGA, Leader Dogs for the Blind will pay you a guaranteed income for life. Part of your initial gift may be eligible for an income tax deduction and your annuity payments will be partially tax-exempt—making your return even higher. Our CGA program is professionally managed by Comerica with one-life, two-life and deferred gift annuities available.

Life Insurance Policies – Make larger gifts than you thought possible.

Purchasing a new or amending an existing insurance policy with Leader Dogs for the Blind as a beneficiary or owner often allows a donor to make a larger gift to Leader Dog. If you gift a current life insurance policy with a cash surrender value to Leader Dog, you may be eligible for a charitable deduction equal to the surrender value. Premium payments may also be eligible for tax deductions if you assign the policy to Leader Dog and send us the funds to make the premium payments.

Appreciated Securities – Savings on Capital Gains.

By donating your securities directly to Leader Dog, you may save current income for daily needs because a gift of stock does NOT come out of your cash flow. You may save taxes three ways: Income tax as a result of the tax savings you experience, Capital Gains tax, and Medicare surtax.
