Programs for the Blind and Visually Impaired
Leader Dogs for the Blind programs enhance a person’s independence and quality of life.
Each year over 235 people from all over the world come to Leader Dog to receive training in our guide dog program—a life changing event that pairs clients with a guide dog, opening doors to independence, safety and self-worth.
We also offer training in orientation and mobility and GPS.
For people who are deaf and blind, Leader Dog offers a Deaf-Blind guide dog program that teaches clients to utilize sign language and touch to communicate commands and praise to their dogs. This is the only dedicated program of its kind in the United States.
Cost of Leader Dog Programs
All Leader Dog programs are offered free of charge at our residential campus in Rochester Hills, Michigan, including:
- expenses for public transportation to students traveling within North America
- room and board
- equipment costs
