Hickory Lions Club of Pennsylvania Raises Awareness
The Hickory Lions Club achieved quite a feat last September when they held their first Sports Dinner. Not only did the Lions honor Myron Cope and Andy Russell, Pittsburgh Steeler legends, they raised $4,000 for Leader Dog, $2,500 for several local organizations, and attracted two Leader Dog applicants and two puppy raising applicants. This is a wonderful showing – especially for a club with less than 40 members.
“As I go around town people keep asking me when we’re going to have another sports dinner,” says James Meston, president of the Hickory Lions. It was James’ contacts from years speaking at sports dinner (he’s a humorist) that helped the Lions attract several Steelers, Pirates, and broadcasters to speak at the dinner. “We sold out all 300 seats to the dinner,” Meston says proudly. “We’d like to have more of these dinners in the future. Leader Dogs for the Blind is a great cause and Lions love to help groups that help others.”
We would like to thank the members of the Hickory Lions for their continued support.
