Volunteer Opportunities

Our work is made possible by an extraordinary community of more than 1,500 dedicated volunteers who give their time, energy and heart to support our mission. When you volunteer with Leader Dogs for the Blind, you’re not just giving back, you’re joining a supportive, mission-driven community.

To ensure a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone, all volunteer roles require a background check and completion of an application appropriate to the position.

    Open Your Home to a Breeding Dog

    Hosting a breeding stock dog means welcoming a Leader Dog mom or dad into your home for the duration of their breeding career — and beyond! These dogs help shape the next generation of Leader Dogs, and you can be part of that journey.

    Imagine a role that keeps you active, challenges you to grow and adds purpose to every day. That’s the heart of puppy raising. As a Leader Dog puppy raiser, you play a critical role in a Future Leader Dog’s journey guiding them as they learn basic skills before beginning formal guide dog train

    Our volunteers play vital roles in every corner of our organization — from marketing and philanthropy to client services, programs and dog care. Whether working hands-on with our dogs through canine care, puppy development, breeding and the vet clinic, or supporting client services, programs, marketing and philanthropy, volunteers help bring our mission to life every day.

Leader Dog volunteers are a special breed, generously sharing their time and talents to help bring our mission to life every day. Their continued dedication and support are at the heart of our organization, and we could not serve our clients without them.

Leader Dogs for the Blind is proud to honor and thank the following individuals for their outstanding service and for reaching one or more of these significant volunteer milestones in the past calendar year:

Milestones:

  • Breeding Whelp: Whelped four or more litters
  • Campus: Served 10 or more years on campus
  • Host: Hosted two or more Leader Dog Moms or Dads
  • Mentor: Served five or more years mentoring breeding hosts
  • Puppy Counselor: Served five or more years as a counselor
  • Raiser: Raised 10 or more puppies
