November 2025 – Future Leader Dog Roo Update

Future Leader Dog Roo is now four months old and weighs a healthy 26.2 pounds! She had a vet check-up and vaccinations this month and is doing great. Roo is also starting to lose her puppy teeth, which means lots of chewing and mouthing — everything’s fair game!
She’s growing more confident every day. Roo still struggles a bit with “down”, “come” and “stay” cues, but she’s making steady progress, especially with calm greetings. She’s also developed a stubborn streak. If she’s cozy in the car, she’d much rather stay put than hop out, it usually takes a gentle nudge.
These past months have been full of new experiences. Roo attended multiple Lions events, including a bar night with live music (which didn’t bother her at all), several meetings and the Elmhurst Lions’ 85th Anniversary Gala, where she met Lions International past-president, Brian Sheehan.
She also visited my dentist’s office and helped at September Fest, where she greeted plenty of people at the ID check table, soaking up the attention and practicing her social skills.
One of her favorite outings was our Leader Dog group picnic, where she ran and played with her fellow Future Leader Dogs — a great way to burn off that puppy energy!
Thanks again for supporting Future Leader Dog Roo’s journey. She’s learning, growing and becoming more prepared every day for her career as a Leader Dog.
