Volunteer with Dogs

Whether you host a breeding dog in your home and help bring new puppies into the world or nurture a young puppy into a confident adult dog that's ready to learn how to lead, volunteering to work with our dogs is an experience you'll never forget. Puppy raisers and breeding hosts are a crucial part of every successful Leader Dog that walks out our doors to become the eyes of someone who's blind or visually impaired.

As a puppy raiser, you'll take a puppy into your home for 12 to 15 months and teach good behavior in a variety of environments to help prepare the puppy to become a guide dog. As a breeding host, a mom or dad dog will come to live with you and you'll bring them back to Leader Dog for their breeding sessions. If you host a mom dog, her puppies will spend their first seven weeks of life in your home.

Our puppy development, breeding and veterinary teams are here to support you through every step of your volunteer experience. You'll also join a dedicated community of volunteers who are always ready to share experiences, trade training tips and help each other out. Learn more about each experience on our website or give us a call at 888-777-5332 to talk to a team member about volunteering.
